Welcome to Ladies4Golf
I started Ladies4Golf in 2004, following my own entry into the game. Well, I 'd had a few lessons and felt I could strike the ball a reasonable distance. Steve, my coach was brilliant, extremely patient and very encouraging and he even took me out onto the course to play, although I remember it taking ages just to complete a couple of holes!
After a series of lessons, I realised I needed lots of practice to cure, or at least curtail, my erratic swing and immediately headed off to the driving range to hit numerous buckets of balls, naively thinking this would prepare me for the demands of playing a course. In hindsight, having lessons was the easy bit and the difficult part was the transition of going out onto a course as a complete novice. The experience was not dissimilar to driving a car for the first time without a driving instructor – feeling very vulnerable amongst so many experts all moving much faster than me!
Anyway, I managed to persuade some girlfriends to spare their husbands for a few hours to venture out onto a golf course with me but I was sensitive that borrowing friends husbands more than a couple of times could wear out one's welcome!
By now I'd become addicted to the game and was keen to progress but unfortunately I didn't have anyone of my standard to play with and I couldn't face the humiliation (or justify the cost) of joining a golf club whilst still doing air shots and zig zagging round the course. So, in desperation to continue playing my new found sport (well, very much a hobby at this stage), I rang as many friends as possible and persuaded them to have lessons so we could learn and play together. It was from this small beginning, that Ladies4Golf was formed.
Over the years Ladies4Golf has grown considerably with many new members finding us and being welcomed into the club. Many of our beginners have gone on to join traditional golf clubs, gain handicaps and turn a hobby into a sport and it has been an added bonus to see so many lovely friendships being forged within the club by so many ladies.
Our club has now been expanded and renamed 'Golf4ers' to include men and cover a bigger geographical area but Ladies4Golf remains a sub-section of Golf4ers to specifically encourage ladies to enjoy the sheer pleasure, sociability (and frustration) of chasing a small, white ball around different fields in the company of like minded individuals.
So, if you're looking for the opportunity to play with others to improve your game or maybe just enjoy the scenery and varied aspects of different courses with a group of sociable ladies, then Ladies4Golf is perfect for you. For instance if you…
- are thinking of taking up golf, then we highly recommend you have some lessons. We organise regular beginner, group lessons with local PGA qualified professionals as we believe it's one of the best way to learn the game. Learning in a group can be fun and can take away the one-on-one pressure, as you quickly realise you're not the only one who's unable to consistently strike the ball!
- have recently taken up the game and are still a novice, then we will help and support you on the golf course with things like the basic rules, etiquette plus share any tips we've been given
- need to brush up your game then join our group Improver Lessons – we regularly hold master classes so you can work on every aspect of your game
- prefer to play 9 holes then you'll be able to join in many of our friendly games
Whatever your golfing standard (let's face it we all have to start somewhere) you can be assured of a warm welcome so come and join us today - it may just change your life!
